Well, I'm just wondering if anyone here has read a nice book lately. If so, please post the title of that book and what you thought of it. You can also post books that you are planning to read or reading and why.
I'll start with mine...

I just recently finished...
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom- A very touching and inspirational story that left me in tears by the end of the book. It also allows you to get an idea of the author's visualization of Heaven.

I'm planning on reading...
A Series of Unfortunate Events: The End by Lemony Snicket- One of my favorite series of all time. The story is just so mysterious and captivating and left me in awe. In short, the series is just splendid.

The Hannibal series- I must say that I loved the movies and I would love to read the books they were based from... if I can manage to convince my dad to let me buy it...

The last Harry Potter book- The name of the book slipped my mind... I want to read this book, a lot. I want to know how J. K. Rowling ends her story. I'm a bit worried though, but I still want to read it.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows <== Last HP book.

I've read 5/6 Harry Potter books, and I thought the fourth one was the best. The TriWizard Tournament was the most exciting event in all of the books, I liked the mysterious atmosphere too, when no one knew who put Harry's name in the Goblet.

I've also read the Narnia books. The Silver Chair was awesome, as well as The Last Battle ^^ The ending was unexpected. I love "sad" endings.

Hmm... The Exile Way is my favorite "un-popular" book. It's a kind of detective story, but with no detectives XD It's set in ancient Japan, and I liked the fact that the main protagonist was a lady.

I want to read the Lemony Snicket series, but I can't find half of them anywhere T_T

Anything written by Dale Brown, he written some stoires that I'll never put down. He writes military-action-aviation techno-thrillers, so it might not be everybodies cup of tea but if your a fan of BGC, I feel you might find one or two of them well worth reading.

I recently finished both Time Spiral and Planar Chaos, if you didnt guess, from the Magic: The Gathering card series with the same names. We're back on good 'ol Domanaria and thanks to all the efforts of planeswalkers and false gods, the entire universe is falling apart. It's up to an ex-planeswalker, his near ageless comapanion a variety of other planeswalkers and one man who seems to be special, to help put the broken universe back in order.

If I could only recommend one book for the rest of the year, it would be Old Man's War by John Scalzi - It's like Halo meets Starship Troopers (He probably has played Halo)

It's the fastest I've ever read a book because it's so easy to, the writing is perfectly simple- no big words or whatever. Not that it's for retards or anything, it's just perfect.

There is plenty of action, scientific explanations of technologies, cool weapons, awesome fight scenes (and violence), great dialog, characters and events. It never slows down with politics or religion, either, just pure ass-kicking with an interesting story.

I read it in a week and I'd give it a 10/10. My dad read this book and loved it, and he's never read a novel in his life.

I have all the Harry Potter books to date but gave up on reading the last 2 because everytime I start someone nicks the book.

I read harry potter also till book 6

first 3 in dutch the later three in english (gonna look to get the first 3 in english also)
in the dutch version they SO messed around with the names

Snape = Sneep
Dumbledore = Perkamentus
Hermoine = Hermients (Hermientje is SUCH a >.< Name in dutch..... )
dursleys = Duffeling (that name I could live with)

I don't know all teh names but these are the ones I remember lol

I recommend everyone read "The Children Of Men" by P.D. James even if you have seen the film because the film is only loosely based on the book.
Or along a similar vein the comic book series "Y: The Last Man" written by Brian K. Vaughan and drawn by Pia Guerra & José Marzan which you can download (legally) the first issue of here

I'm currently reading The Silmarillion. Its a great book for any LotR fan who is interested in the history of Middle Earth. It has the same writing style as LotR so its a little slow but very interesting.

I've recently read Tell Me Your Dreams by Sidney Sheldon. A rather lovely book in my opinion.

Currently working on Jasper Fforde's "Well of Lost Plots" (third in the series, the first is "The Eyre Affair") He manages to make fun of writing, reading, writers, readers, and the entire literary heritage since the eighth century BC. If you're a fan of Terry Pratchett, try Fforde.

Funny this thread has been brought back up because I've been reading a lot of the Teen Power Inc. books from Emily Rodda (aka Jennifer Rowe) over the past few days. I know it has a really cheesy title but the stories usually deal with crimes and mysteries that six teenage people encounter from their part time jobs. I also like the characters and the fact that each book are narrated by one of the gangs in their POV as it makes you understand the way their personality is the way it is and why they hang out with each other.

Reading these books brings back memories of my early teens days where I would constantly borrow a random selected book out of the 30 in the series at my school library. Originally I had never took any interest in these books even though I had ordered the first two when I was around 10 or 11 years old for those book sale catalogue the schools usually give out for you to order what you like (I can't even remember how I even ordered the first two when I knew nothing about the Teen Power Inc. series back then. It also came with a Teen Power Inc. FM Radio Tuner but it's sadly broken and got thrown out a long time ago).

It's funny that around 2 years later I still had the books and had not even read them yet. That was until one really late night I think I had a school assignment where I had to write up a review on a novel and I hadn't even read anything yet XD. It was at that time the two books were in my room and I was really curious to what these books were about. I spent the whole night in bed reading the entire novel of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and the story was really interesting (at the time anyway) with many twists and turns and left me to think I knew who the criminal is but turning out to be someone I never suspected.

Now around 5-6 years later I'm starting to collect the rest of the books in the series. So far I've only managed to get books 3-8 and 10-17 from ebay out of the 30, apparently it seems book 20 and onwards are really hard to find since they're really old now (the series first came out in 1994 and has been reprinted twice since then). I'm hoping to get the rest of the series soon to recapture my enthusiasm in reading novels XD since I've already read all of the books I recently got.

books...i dunno lord of the rings and chronicles of narnia are good! army field manuals are nice too.
