I guess Rebel will get a kick out of this and I found this also funny as well lol. Nintendo probably needs to work on the wrist strap when it's supposed to prevent the controller from flying out of the hands but failed in this case resulting in tragedy ROFL. I can see Lynk's gonna defend Nintendo for this and he can if he wants to since I have no opinion on this but I still found it hilarious. Just a note though for those planning on getting this...buy two wrist straps XD.

Well the guy with the broken TV (remember his friend lost the grip of the control and the wrist straps that was meant to stop it flying out of control failed and the control flew right into the TV screen) did say he wasn't going to hold Nintendo responsible for this nor was he going to make them compensate his broken TV, he just simply wanted to inform people on the straps lol.

The funny thing is the next 11 pages are full of fanboys and forum members arguing over if it's Nintendo's fault for the strap's failure, giving analogies that are irrelevent to the main topic, the laws of physics and bitching at each other XD.

But it appeared the majority of them seemed to ignore this post on page 10.

I completely believe the OP's story because last night I had some friends over playing my Wii and while they were playing Wii Sports baseball the wiimote slips out of my friend's hand as he's swinging, the wrist strap breaks and the wiimote hits me in the fucking ear. It caused me to bleed. So seeing you fucktards blindly think this type of shit isn't real because Nintendo makes quality products annoys me to no end.

Sorry, nope, not gonna defend it cause I'm not a mindless Nintendo fanboy no matter what you or other people think of me. Some of these occurances are very real, this sort of thing has been happening since people got their hands on the Wiimote since E3 2006.

When I get my Wii, I'll put it through some tests and let you guys know how well the wrist strap holds up and if it comes out of my hand in the first place.

Not too shocked. They just need strong straps. Not all that big of a deal. They just need to enforce future remote's straps. The dude should at least get a new remote from Nintendo. As for the TV issue, I would ask for them to help out since their strap wasn't strong enough.

Not sure how you can defend Nintendo in this regard.

Nintendo will most likely replace the Wiimote free of charge because of the issue with the strap, they may even go as far as manufacturing new straps and giving them out for free for anyone who requests it and replacing the old straps with the new ones in new production units.

At least that's what I think will happen when you take into account what Nintendo has done in the past to try to overcome these kinds of issues.

they should, at the very least as a courtesy, I'm sure they'd rather make better straps than have people going around saying the Wii is both inexpensive and uses poor quality materials.(refrencing strap, nothing else ATM)

Well they have done this sort of thing in the past...

Buit I don't think it's poor quality materials we're talking here. I think it's the fact that this is the first time a strap of this kind has been used in a device like this which requires a lot of stress to be put on the strap.

The only other times I've seen these straps used is for handheld electronic devices like a camera or something like that. The idea is to have it tied to your hand so if you drop it, the strap catches it so it doesn't break on the ground. On the other hand, the Wiimote has you doing some crazy things sometimes.

Also, I've spent the last hour periodically putting stress on my DS's strap and it hasn't broken yet... I'm almost at the point where I'm about to throw my DS around by the strap to see if it holds... still holding.

I'm finding it hard to believe the two links posted. But this sort of things has happened because it has happened to IGN where their strap broke and there are a couple of old videos from E3 of people accidentally letting go of the Wiimote who didn't have their straps on.

The thing with the IGN instance though is that the strap broke much differently to what this guy is claiming, and the second link is hard to believe since he apparantly broke two things in two different locations and cut himself all with the swing of one Wiimote.

I think people are taking advantage of a small truth and making it seems worse than it actually it. It's like someone saying that you could hurt people with the PSP's UMD launcher.

I've heard of a number of stories of people's Wiimotes coming out of their hand because they didn't use the strap, but the only real confirmation of strap breakage is from IGN.

Oh, my DS strap is still alive btw, haven't managed to break it yet.

Yeah, it has to be cut since we're talking fibres here. For it to break in a way the guy claims, all of those fibres would need to break simultaneously... which is impossible.

The only thing is, if his "friend" did it without wearing a strap then why would this guy defend him? If my friend didn't wear the strap and broke my 54" tv I'd be pissed as hell at him. Unless he just needs a story so he can try to get Nintendo to pay for the damages...

according to the Chicago tribune or at least Sundays "q" section, it says Nintendo is recalling the remote strap. dunno if its a worldwide recall or just stateside, i figured I'd share the info
