Lego has finally caught up with anime.

Mind you, I was making attack killer robots from lego 20 years ago.


However now, the lego men come standard with the anime hair cut and the Vegita-I-am-consipated look.

They had actually been trying to acquire rights for about 12 years now. The thing is Japan already had a lot of companies buying up rights for things, so their choices were limited to things not capable of being marketted outside of Japan.

I remember they were trying constantly to get Gundam and several of the shonen shows.

Sucks that they've seem to have given up and just ripped the style and created their own little thing. I would've loved to have a huge Lego technics Sazabi kit.

Lego has really moved away from the days of building everything with actual peices. It's all these stylized stuff and the detail is built in, it's kinda sad. Though there is some website I recall...Lego Purists I think, that built stuff only out of basic lego parts, unless such a thing like a window was needed. Lego is also too expensive.

I don't like how minimalistic all the models are. Most of the pieces look specialized and I'm not "digging" the constipated look on the little lego guy's faces. Plus, where's all the female lego guys? Girls definitely need a strong female influence these days, one that isn't a bimbo, bitch, or bisexual (although for the grownups I wouldn't mind)

Nothing beats spending two days building two huge Lego robots... playing the opening theme song to Star Wars... and then crashing said robots into each other at 25 mph in the hallway outside your room.

Ahh LEGO the things I used to make out of that... although some of the latest stuff they have come out with has been shit... no way i would buy some of that for my relatives kids.

the problem is that the toy industry is that it is set in the extreems ie there are clear cut boundries of what is typically a boys toy and whats a girls, there is little inbetween.

Plus i think Lego stopped bothering with female lego characters after that desasterous attempt at a Girls lego range a few years ago.

I think Lego still makes girl legos, you just dont see them advertized as much, but female lego characters, while not very girly since they're built on a typical lego body, are still seen in sets, though certinaly not very common.

Lego has gone downhill in general IMO.

pfft, if they actually allowed you to use all the lego parts that are produced that might actually be a good thing. The Lego Digital Designer is a good program but it's sorely lacking in parts. Almost all of the useful technic stuff is not there along with about a handful of those really common and totally useful lego parts we all use on a regular basis. And you can only submit your designs to lego if they use the provided parts, the program can be modded to include alot of other stuff but then you cant submit it to lego. It's like thei system(which was setup to handle all these other parts) cant do that anymore, it's quite annoying.

I think I stopped collecting after the second iteration of their "Bionicle" line of their home grown toys.

What ever happened to LEGO Technic? Those where the best models around especially some of the vehicles.

They had a clothing line some time ago, but they lost on that and went back to basics, because LEGO is still truly a toy company at heart.
I think the move to facsimile anime themes was probably what not many saw coming but for those that love Mecha and love Legos, they might have a grand time recreating their favourite characters and Mecha out of the many cannibalized pieces from 10 different sets.
I am in fact as a Lego fan (Lego Maniac) am turned off of it all, but I like the detail of the pieces as well as the smaller pieces that they are beginning to manufacture with greater precision for their molds.


Oh and speaking of rights and copyrights, The LEGO company buries its molds in concrete bunkers underground for like 10 years or so to prevent anyone stealing them.
