I'll start...

• The DS wasn't the first Nintendo device to feature a microphone, the Famicom (Japanese version of the NES) was. The player 2 controller for the Famicom had a microphone in it although it was used in very few games.
  
  
  Also, the Famicom controllers were directly hard-wired into the console, meaning that neither of them could be removed. Also, only the player one controller had the START and SELECT buttons while the player two controller doesn't.

• One game that used the microphone feature on the Famicom was The Legend of Zelda. In the game there are creatures called "Pols Voices" and the only way to defeat them is to talk into the player two controllers microphone. In the versions of The Legend of Zelda outside of Japan, this feature was removed because the NES had the microphone feature removed, however the hint about Pols Voices hating loud noises was still left in the manual.
  
  
  
  
  The feature of using a microphone in a Zelda game is later used in the DS game Phantom Hourglass.

• The bushes in Super Mario Bros. are just recoloured clouds.
  
  
  
  
  Also, the fire flower is just a recoloured coin on its side. But that's not all, many think that Goomba's are mushrooms, but in fact they are chestnuts. The reason for this is because Goomba's happen to be recoloured mushrooms in the original Super Mario Bros, however in Super Mario Bros. 3, they look more like chestnuts.
  
• When Mario was being created for the game Donkey Kong, it was decided to give him a cap because it was too difficult to create hair animation for him.
  
• The three legendary birds in Pokemon are named Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres... as in uno, dos, tres.
  
• Pokemon's hero, Satoshi is named after its creator, Satoshi Tajiri. Satoshi's rival in the series is Shigeru who is named after Shigeru Miyamoto.
  
• Tingle looks strangely like Koji Kondo, the composer of Mario and Zelda and other Nintendo games. Also, the Happy Mask Salesman is said to look strangely like Shigeru Miyamoto.

Yeah, The Happy Mask Salesman is a very cliché and racist Chinaman... I remember I was reading about how they were going for a Chinese theme in Majora's Mask and then suddenly the happy mask salesman made sense. Sure he was probably originally an avatar of Shiggy back in Ocarina of Time, but his character did expand for Majora's Mask.

Oh and here's another fact for you guys.

• Eternal Darkness, a game developed by Silicon Knights, a former second party developer for Nintendo, featured many unique insanity effects which pulled many tricks on the player, including making them think the TV has suddenly turn off, the volume is being lowered by itself and making them hear and see things that aren't really there.
  
  Nintendo liked this feature so much that they patented it.

Sounds like it might be fun to play in darkness with headphones or surround sound I didnt realy know much about the game or that it was a psychological horror, i think it sounds alright =P

• Many credit GTA3 for opening up the GTA universe and allowing players to finally experience the supposed greatness that is GTA4... but people seem to forget that there was a game before GTA3 that defined pretty much all of the game mechanics used from GTA3 onwards... no, I'm not talking about the original GTA and GTA2, I'm talking about Body Harvest.
  
  I'm sure none of you have even heard of this title, but it was a Nintendo 64 game developed by DMA Design which was later renamed Rockstar North after their success with GTA3. It featured a very open ended world where players could use a wide variety of vehicles to fight off giant alien bugs... in fact, I still have the N64 cartridge lol.
  
  I think they also made a reference to Body Harvest in GTA San Andreas... but it's been ages since I played that.

• Oh, and if Shigeru Miyamoto had've gone through with it, Ocarina of Time wouldn't have used the third person perspective. Instead, it would've been a first person game. I kid you not.

• Many think that Duck Hunt originates from the NES game... but in fact, Nintendo released the game back in 1976, back way before the Famicom/NES came into existence.
  
  The game was released on the Laser Clay Shooting System which Nintendo developed. Basically it's a light gun game, however instead of using a TV, a projector that comes with the system would project images onto a wall and the player would shoot that.

I'm a bit of a Morrowind/Oblivion addict, so I've found shitloads of wierd things about the games:

-The Ashes of three well known TES fans are found in Morrowind, G.Lyngas, Lord Brinne, and D. Bryant. Apparently they passed away during Morrowind's production, so the Ashes were placed as tributes. Nice touch that.

-There's a plant called Charles in a bookshop in Vivec (the big City).

You can find Meteor Slime in it. This is a reference to the games Day of The Tentacle and Maniac Mansion by LucasArts.

-There is a hidden book called Capn's Guide to the Fishy Stick. I kid you not!


-I found the body of Indiana Jones in one of the tombs the other day. Complete with a FWCW note. (For some reason, my screencap software doesn't work so no pix, sorry!)

-I've also found so far 4 pokemon references, Marowak's Spine, Weepingbell Hall, Kakuna Burial and a skeletal corpse named Peke Utchoo (Pikachu).

And that's just for TES3: Morrowind, let alone Oblivion!
