I went and saw Aliens VS Predator Requiem the other day... why? Well because I had nothing better to do apparantly.
The first movie was pretty crap, it had brief cool moments but for the most part they tried to make it one of those audience friendly movies where they got to see supposedly cool things happen and everyone could enjoy it or some crap like that. The first movie, while being sucky did have one good thing about it... it allowed the second movie to be made which is a hellova lot better than the first and is actually entertaining for those of us who appreciate a good mindless action flick once in awhile.
One cool thing about this movie is that it starts EXACTLY where the last one ended lol.
First thing to remember for fans of the Alien franchise is that you really shouldn't expect this to be an Alien movie in its traditional sense. Those kinds of movies can't be made anymore because the Aliens thrived on their mysterious nature and knowing and seeing too much of them has dulled their scariness. Alien movies are a thing of the past and should really stay in the past. However, what this movie is, is a good Predator movie with Aliens in it.
In Requiem, no one is spared and not everyone will die in the usual way, some deaths are pretty cool actually
And while the human element of the movie is pretty lame, the script being below average and the actors not being all that great, the overall progression of the movie is pretty good, though a little shakey at the start with its pacing. But yeah, the way things progressed in the movie did make sense so it's not like you're shaking your head thinking "they so wouldn't do that". Oh and I should point out that while the script and acting aren't all that great, it's certainly a whole lot better than what was in the first movie, the first movie made you cringe, this movie doesn't.
There's one thing you do end up doing in this movie and it's cheering for the Predator called "Wolf". He's the movies anti-hero and he's there for a specific purpose, to wipe out the alien infestation. Wolf doesn't really bother with the humans (Though I found it funny how he killed that cop and skinned him near the start of the movie to make the disappearance of that father and son look like a mysterious mountain-side killing incident, that was pretty clever.) but there are moments when the human characters don't know what's going on and they end up attacking Wolf and you're like "Dammit! DO NOT shoot at the Predator!" lol. The poor bastard is only trying to do his job after all lol.
There are a lot of fun references in the movie that fans of both series will be able to spot, some more obvious than others, but they're packed in there in clever ways for the most part... even down to the main chick who sounds scarily like Sigourney Weaver when they're in those action moments and they're yelling in the movie. At the end of the movie they retrieve Wolf's plasma cannon and it finds its way into the hands of the Yutani Corporation... you know, as in Weyland-Yutani Corporation... "Building Better Worlds" lol. It's funny cause this movie takes place directly after the first one which means that Weylands death causes his companies stock prices to fall, Yutani uses the technology found in the plasma cannon to create new technologies and buys out Weyland Industries and Weyland-Yutani Corp is born.
Like I said before, it's a good mindless action movie for those who can appreciate it.
