This question has been bugging me for a while, can a person in the music industry be considered an artist if they can sing but don't write their own songs? For me it seems like nowadays an artist will only be taken seriously if they can write their own songs. What's your opinion?
well, me, not sure. hell if they can sing, and sing damn good. let em
Good point, Mav XD
I'm with Kyubi on this one, singing alone is a piece of art regardless of who penned the tune or the words. Some of my favourite songs are covers of older songs, which another singer or band has reworked in tune or tempo or whatever, and outstripped the original. But if their entire repertoire consists of just ripping off prior songs and repeating them ad verbatim without injecting anything new.... I don't really respect that.
Just because it's in the thesaurus doesn't mean it's a good idea.
And why isn't 'dethesaurisation' in the dictionary?
IMO:
Artists create.
Performers perform.
There is an art to performance, though, as has been previously stated.
