I hope for Nintendo's sake that this is just a very sick joke on their part and while this won't stop me from buying a REVOLUTION... it is another stupid move by Nintendo which I DO NOT agree with at all.


I would also like to say that any ill comments about Nintendo's "brilliant" naming strategy is fine by me, so fire away!



Obviously Nintendo was trying to pull an Apple with this name... with the double i... but that's the thing, Ipod has the i in front a "eye-pod" yeah sure the whole i thing is in these days... but not in the way it's being used. When spelling it, Wii looks okay... but when SAYING it... then you have some big problems...

"Hey wanna come over to my place and play Wii?"

... Well Nintendo... Wii think the name SUCKS.

When I refer to Nintendo's next gen console, I will be calling it what I always have: Revolution... NRV for short.

The whole marketing-campaign sounds as if Nintendo has no arguments left.
The controller is of course an important part of the whole console but it´s not the reason why someone buys a certain product. Nintendo has made numerous errors since their snes-reign and if there hadn´t been the Game Boy and Pokemon they would have endured the Fate of Sega by now. I really wish Nintendo the best of luck cause a competition between Sony and Microsoft alone would be somewhat boring

Who ever said Nintendo was trendy and cool? Nintendo is unpopular, Sony and Microsoft are trendy and cool... Nintendo just thought too much about the name when they had a perfectly decent codename they could've made official.

Nintendo as a videogames company has made many error long before the SNES, they made quite a few in the NES era as well and it's not just the Game Boy and Pokemon that's keeping Nintendo afloat. Nintendo is the only one of the three hardware companies that is VERY successful with its first party titles. You don´t have to remind me of the fact that Nintendo has many popular franchises, I am playing them for 20 years now
But to be honest the gamecube sold very bad in germany, in total 800.000 GC´s were sold here until december 2005 while during the Christmas-sales 2005 Nintendo sold 520.000 DS. So they sold during a few weeks nearly as many DS as they sold GC´s in all the years before. The PS2 was sold 3.4 million times in germany until december 2005. So even if a first party title from nintendo is a big hit on the gamecube it doesn´t sell so many copies as the system itself is not so wide spread. I think nintendo makes 80% of their sales in germany with the gameboy advance/nintendo ds and the games for them. Of course the numbers do only stand for germany i don´t know how good or bad nintendo does elsewhere, perhaps they got a better marketentry with the gamecube in australia. and i do think that nintendo is an innovative company, exspecially when it comes to creating new game concepts, but in germany they have the same problem that sega had - good and innovative game titles but the hardware is sold badly. So the handheld-sector really keeps them alive here. I hope nintendo has learned from their mistakes in the past and gets more third party companies to develop games for the Wii.
That name really irritates me, Wii sounds similar to the german "wie" and that means "how?"

The GameCube sells just as badly here, the point was that Nintendo makes its profit from its long list of franchises no matter what the system, so despite the lack of GCN sales, the GCN still sells enough games to survive. You should also remember that the GameCube was extremely cheap to manufacter. Also you can't compare Nintendo to Sega in this case, Sega had very different issues that brought it down.

As for the Revolution, Nintendo has quite a lot of third party support, not all, but most, plus it has indie developer support from NIBRIS and Crossbeam, etc who are making games exclusively for the NRV.

I wuv Nintendo. I still have my old GameBoy from so long ago, and the Start button isn't even worn out yet! O_o I wuv Mario...and Zelda (Yay Link!)...and Pokemon! Yay! Yet, I don't know anyone who has a GameCube here... not even an Xbox in sight. Only PS2 sells. I hope Nintendo has plans on how to make Pinoys go for Wii... there are many rabid gamers here, and though they don't notice us, we're prepared to shell out some dough if only they make their products available.....

I will just say that people saying that they won't buy the console because of the name are kinda ignorant. It's just a name after all. You be surprised how many "OMFG, the name sucks! This console sucks! I'm not buying it!" comments I have seen already. I never knew a name was that big of a deal.

I wonder whether there will be any "Revolution" stickers or alternative logo vinyls for the console, so people who don't like Wii can simply paste over that name with the old one.

I've seen a large nubmer of these Wii things, so I assume it's official. Either way, it's the DUMBEST console name I can think of. WII(2) would have been better. Course, console name has jack squat to do with console ability, cept it does have a huge effect on marketability.

Revolutoin would have been much better.

In related news, it's pretty much been confirmed by EA that the Analog attachments (see pic below, on the left) is also motion sensative like the Revmote itself (see pic below, on the right). Which means it opens up more posibilities of control. For example in an FPS game you could gesture the Analog attachment up, down, left, right to jump, crouch, jump to the left, jump to the right without having to press any buttons. All while you move with the Analog stick and look with the Revmote itself... Metroid Prime 3 is gonna be so cool! lol.

Also Nintendo is going to be showing us a racing title at E3 that uses the Revolution controller's unique abilities. I hope it's F-Zero

I'll admit, when I first heard about the controller, I thought it was going to be really stupid, but upon thinking about it for a while, it actually seems like a good idea. It would be kinda neat to wave it around and have it do what you want. It's a little unconventional and all, but, after hearing that, it sounds kinda cool.

Yeah naturally when everyone saw the controller it was a BIG shock, but it didn't take long for people to realise that this may be the best idea thought up for videogames in... 20 years LOL.

It's great cause a lot of games that are harder to control with conventional controllers make a lot more sense when you factor in the Revmote.
