Anyone else seen this series? I finished this series a few weeks ago after getting a whole new batch of animes from my friend. The story is kinda slow at the start but really picks up around episode 7 when Aono (Yorito's sister) comes in. The ending was kinda sad though when the plot unravels.

Was kinda surprised it was voted the best 2007 anime in Japan but I guess the drama and supernatural themes really did make it stand out, particularly the plot twist near the end. I loved the ending theme for the last episode "Miageru no Sora de", quite a soothing and gentle song to end the series.

Really recommend this to others who are into drama or supernatural animes.

Yes, I watched it last year. Sola was decent. The main problem with the series is the slow start to the series. Since the series started slowly, you might have ended up dropping the series before it got into the good part. A lot of plot twists I never thought of came up during the series, Yorito's sister? Yorito being nothing, but a doll created by Yorito's sister to replace the original Yorito. I sure didn't see that one coming. A interesting series, which only manage 12 episodes, which was good enough.

13 episodes actually, plus two special DVD episodes. The dramatic scenes are rather intense towards the final battle between Aono and Matsuri. You'll have to watch through the series to understand it though.

Question for Eva, did you ever get the full meaning of what a yaka was? I was left slightly confused on its explanation.

from what I understood, a yaka is someone who exists through the pain and suffering of others, if that's the case, who's suffering does Matsuri exist from or is she the creator of this curse?

Not exactly. I just thought it was a creature that couldn't go into light and had special powers. Matsuri seem to be the only true yaka while Aono was converted to preserve her life. A yaka, which would be Matsuri, was just viewed as demon, it just might have been she had powers, like a witch and people shun her for it.

I do recommend watching it but be prepared for the ending. I don't want to give it away but I found the ending a bit sad and depressing although many others who have seen it will think differently.

I really do wonder if Yorito ever questioned Aono's never changing or aging physical appearance, let alone his. It looked like she created him around 100 years before the present day story began and yet he never seemed to have that thought. It's funny considering Matsuri said he had a mind of his own despite being created by Aono.

Likely one of those things that was never explain. You known Aono had to move often since people start raising a eyebrow that she was never aging. She might have recreated Yorito over and over again. Breaking him down, then recreating him. It's well within her power to do just that.
